Metroid: Coven is a Metroid fan game in which you play Samus from a top down perspective.

Ranger
Ranger is a nice top down shooter with an interesting mechanic: Only those enemies that are in your line of sight are visible. Your mission is to rescue hostages and bring them back to your base… and kill the enemies that get in your way. Due to the fact that ammo is limited it is required to use the weapons economically. Some baddies might be blown away with the shotgun, while a whole bunch of enemies might be best served with a hail of bullets from the good old minigun (and an occasional little grenade).
The video shows Mission 1-7.
Mission 7 starts at 30:40 and well…was pretty “interesting” with a shortage of ammo!

Shoot First
Shoot First is a fantastic blend between a fast paced top down shooter and a roguelike. Shoot baddies, run around, dodge all kinds of stuff and level up your weapons. Also collect items and find keys to open the locked doors in order to hop between the randomized levels. Overall challenging fun with an interesting graphical style (and a 2 player co-op mode). Great!

Survival Crisis Z
Survival Crisis Z is a top down shooter with an apocalyptic setting where you have to kill zombies. You can either blast them away in story mode or arcade mode.
