The game requires about 5 hours to complete.
Due to its popularity a new version was released in 2010 for WiiWare.
It was in development for 5 years and was originally only available in japanese but got translated by fans.
I recommend to download the Cave Stroy Deluxe Package.

By far one of the best indie platform/shooters out there. I’ve been searching for others, but they just don’t seem to compare
There is a full story, although it does lack in depth, and the core game is pretty easy. The fun stuff is find all the hidden areas and beating “hell mode” which is unlocked by making various choices throughout the game.
The game also features 3 different endings, for all you who care.

As far as Cave Story goes… it’s terrific! The weapons are cool, the characters and art design is great, the levels are well made, the boss fights are fun and not too tough, etc…
Hard to say something bad about this game to be honest. Definitely in my top 5 indie games i have played.
If you wanna play a good game play this, cave story gets a 10/10, and would go in my top 10
